A Message from your President,

Greeting Phi Pi Members,

Spring is in the air, and as we bring the last few days of the quarter to an end, I am reflecting on the two years of my presidency. My time as your chapter president ends on June 30, 2024. When I ran for President, I told members my vision was to return more benefits to the membership. For nearly fourteen years, Phi Pi has been a chapter of Sigma. We have grown from a small chapter to one of the largest chapters in Sigma. With over 3300 members, we are a prominent voice in Sigma.

During the last two years, we instituted the first-ever DNP project grant. DNP student members can apply for a grant of up to $3,500 to help fund the institution of their project in their practice area. The grant was added to our already significant research grant of $5,000 that funds dissertation research for our doctoral students engaging in further study. Additionally, we instituted funding for members attending the Biennial Convention. This benefit complements our long-established Professional Development award for those members presenting their projects and research at conferences nationwide.

My membership in Sigma has afforded me the opportunity to meet amazing human beings who share a common mission of improving nursing practice and patient outcomes. Besides the monetary benefits of membership, the human aspect of our memberships is unmeasurable. I truly believe that my success in my professional life is tied to the collegial relationship I have fostered throughout the time of my membership in Sigma and the Phi Pi Chapter. I encourage you all to lean into your membership, be involved, and be engaged.

I want to thank you for your trust in me to lead the chapter and I look forward to seeing you all in the communities that you serve.

Respectfully,
Allen Perez

A Message from your President-Elect,

Hello to our Esteemed Phi Pi Members,

I would like to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude on behalf of our chapter to Allen Perez for his volunteer leadership of Phi Pi for the last eight years. Allen was the driving force in setting up the online infrastructure for our chapter. When he joined Phi Pi as counselor of the Las Vegas campus and Secretary of the Board of Directors, our chapter did not even have an email account. Allen set up an email system and many other programs that we have today that 'run' our chapter.

Phi Pi is one of the largest Sigma chapters in the world and our members live in all fifty US states and six different countries. While Chamberlain has many campuses for prelicensure nursing students, the majority of our members are online nurses, Chamberlain nurse faculty, and Chamberlain graduates. In 2019, our chapter won an International Award for Communications and Publicity, thanks to Allen's efforts. I have personally worked side by side with Allen over the last eight years, and I can attest to the wonderful nurse, nursing instructor, nursing leader, and nursing advocate he is. I am probably underestimating when I say that Allen has spent on average 10-20 hours a week (every week) on Phi Pi during these last eight years. His presidency ends on June 30 this year and I hope you all join me in thanking him for his service. He will serve as the past president for the next two years, so he will still be intimately involved with our chapter. Allen is the type of servant leader that we all should aspire to be.

Thank you doesn't seem enough for all he has done, but here goes---THANK YOU ALLEN. Phi Pi appreciates and thanks you!!

Regards,
Leanne Prenovost
